Abstract: Lean manufacturing is a strategy and philosophy originated from Just-In-Time (JIT) production which aims to eliminate waste and maximize efficiency in the production process. While lean manufacturing is studied and applied in va¬rious scenarios, the approach encounters multiple challenges that are not yet solved in sheet metal production industry. This paper provides a novel scheduling approach specifically for sheet metal industries, and achieved the goal of reducing waste in the scheduling process in a real-life simulation through the use of value stream mapping simplification and intelligent order mixing.
